"The Next Step" began with a shape I kept drawing: two unequal vertical forms connected by a diagonal line and three words: connection, growth, and hope.
I considered other images, but kept coming back to stairs: the effort of climbing and the possibility of moving forward.
The painting became a stairway where each light reveals a little more of the climb. I wanted to hold both the struggle of taking the next step and the hope that makes it possible.
The three lights became my way of showing that you don’t have to see the entire path to take the next step.
